So I finished up a big painting project in my apartment this past weekend. Today I had some clean-up chores to do - transferring unused paint into a different bucket, after first washing out that bucket. "10 minutes max," I thought. And in spite of lots of experience with paint, I had the arogance to think, "I don't need to put on my paintings clothes. I'll just be careful. I know what I'm doing."
Yeah, just like when I tried to do touch-up without a drop cloth....
"Paint is deceitful and unspoiled clothes are fleeting."
That's when it struck me how much paint is like sin. There's no amount of it that's small enough to manage without soiling your clothes. All the best intentions in the world won't keep a big ol glob of paint from flying off your brush and landing on the floor. And once it's on your clothes, well it takes a bunch of distilled petroleum products to get it out.
At least with sin we have a sure-fire reagent- "and without blood there is no remission of sin". "Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord."
